Doc Ben, Dog’s Best Friend

Ben Oldag had a special knack of making both animals and people feel instantly worthy and warmly welcomed into his mirth-filled world. “The smartest man I ever met.” was a common eulogy coined by Ben's friends to describe him.

Beyond his natural brilliance, he skipped grades more than once in grammar school, Ben is best remembered for his never-ending curiosity, switchblade sharp wit and solemn commitment to a safer, synthetic-poison free world for pets and people.

Three Trees, One Root

Neem Tree Seeds, Azadirachtin Indica

Neem Tree Seeds, Azadirachtin Indica

The idea was always rooted in the replacement of poisons through the discovery and effective biological alternatives. While working with the USDA at the Kiki De La Garza Subtropical Research Center, Ben discovered a 100% successful Red Texas Cedar Oil based solution to the Citric Rust Mite problem.

Ever since, his mission was to harvest and utilize the naturally occurring, active pest control compounds found in the Red Texas Cedar, and Neem tree seed oil. (Azadirachchtin Indica)

All Roads Lead To Spring, Texas

Ben started it all in Spring, Texas. We think he would be content to know that his formulations continue to be introduced to a larger public thanks to the efforts of WonderCide, Stop Skin Mites, EcoKiller and Only Natural Pets to name a very few.

Long before “on-line” and “on-Line Retailers” existed, Doc Ben was fooling around with essential oils. Ben was always eager to share his natural secrets with neighbors and friends. We continue on that same path today.

American Cedar Technologies is still based in Spring Texas, a suburb of Houston, the “petro-metro” capital of the nation. We were manufacturing natural botanical insecticides long before the term “natural” was cool. For decades, we have been in the oil business, the Neem, Orange and Cedar oil business, no petroleum at our plant, just pure tree oil.

Even a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while.
— Benjamin Franklin Oldag, Regarding the successful formulation of Best Yet. (Best Ever, Evolv, BBK, EcoKiller, Evictor etc)

If a little bit of chemical pesticide will kill a bug, a little bit more will kill your dog and a little bit more will most certainly kill you
— Doc Ben Oldag -Regarding the deadly poisoning power of synthetic pesticides)

The theory of using your pet as a magnet to attract fleas, then kill the flea using lethal toxins delivered through the animal’s bloodstream is absurd, This practice is just wrong and is neither competent or professional in nature. Contrary to belief, products marketed under the guise of Pet Meds are far removed from that of bonafide medication.
— Doc Ben -Regarding the Merial's introduction of spot on "pet meds")

Ben’s Quest- Find Non-Toxic Alternatives

Ben Oldag was a teenager at the time of DDT’s birth. Over the years Ben gained abundant personal experience regarding the use of synthetic pesticides in agriculture. Like so many observant farmers watching over their lands far and near, he personally witnessed the kill offs, the poisonings and sickness, early deaths and birth deformities caused by DDT in his own community.

No doubt, these first hand encounters, personally knowing so many victims, shaped and fired Ben’s continued focus on research and development of non-toxic alternatives to chemical pesticides.

No Dogs in Heaven

A kindly old man died peacefully and found himself resurrected in the middle of a country road. And behold! Running toward him was his favorite dog! He knelt and embraced his long lost pet in tearful reunion. After some time, the dog seemed anxious to walk the road in what seemed to be the direction of the rising sun. The man followed.

Before long, they came to a fence of wrought gold, with pearly gates, behind which there stood mansion upon mansion. The gatekeeper, a tall man in flowing white robes, greeted the man, and welcomed him to enter.

"But what exactly is this place?" said the man, who had been a lifelong agnostic.

"This," said the gatekeeper, is Heaven. But you'll have to leave him outside. We have a strict no-pets policy."

The man stood in confusion for some moments. His face became grim. "No thanks," he said. "I'll take my chances with my dog."

For a long time, the man and his dog wandered down the road. At last they came to an unpretentious farming community with no fences or gates of any kind. What appeared to be a contented old farmer was sitting on a stool next to an old-fashioned hand operated water pump. The dog ran up to the farmer, who petted him, and gave him some water.

"Where is this place?" asked the man.

"This is Heaven," answered the farmer. "It's all around you. You've been in it, or at least the outskirts of it ever since you died."

"But that fellow back yonder behind the pearly gates said that place was Heaven." replied the man.

"Nah, that's Hell," replied the farmer. "We leave the entrance there to weed out the hypocrites who'd leave their best friend behind."
